El Tour de Tucson

Our speaker at the October GABA meeting will be TJ Juskiewicz, executive director of Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, which hosts the El Tour de Tucson.  As you may know,  El Tour has been an annual event in Tucson since 1983, is attended by thousands of cyclists every year, and was recently recognized by USA TODAY as the nation's top road cycling event.
TJ has also been the director of RAGBRAI, Bike Florida, and has been president of the national Bicycle Tour Network and the National Association of Governors’ Councils on Physical Fitness & Sports.

At the October meeting, TJ will share with us information on the history of El Tour, including how it got started, how it has changed over the years, and famous cyclists who have ridden El Tour, along with lots of important information about this year’s El Tour on November 25.

Please join your fellow GABA members (and feel free to bring guests) to this interesting and important presentation.  The meeting will be held in the meeting room at the Catalina United Methodist Church at 2700 E Speedway Blvd (SW corner of Speedway and Treat) starting at 7:00 pm.  Free parking across the street at the SE corner.

Volunteers are also still needed!

What makes this such a GREAT ride?

• It's November in Tucson...perfect weather for a bicycle ride.

• With El Tour De Tucson a month away, it proves to be an excellent training ride.
• The route is a mixture of flat, rolling hills, and challenging climbs, all the while being very picturesque!

• We’re hoping to offer the same three routes as last year, 30 Mile, Metric Century and Full Century (permits pending!)

• We’ll have lots of water, hydration, snacks and support at each of the SAG stations as well as roaming support vehicles and lunch at the finish for all riders!

• Hope to see you all there!

GABA Wants You...for the Supported Rides Group! Join the Supported Rides Group and help GABA make the magic of the Supported Rides program happen!

Have fun and make new friends while helping your club be the best it can be and learning from one of the best-supported rides teams in the country. No experience necessary!

Supported Rides is responsible for coordinating and organizing the Century and Overnight Rides for GABA. These rides and events are the pinnacle for this organization. Having someone new with new energy and ideas for Supported Rides would be great for GABA and the Tucson community.  This position is open to more than one individual.

The Supported Rides Coordinator is a Board member position. The Supported Rides Coordinator is responsible for the direction of Supported Rides and will contribute to the success of GABA.  If you’re interested in becoming a Supported Rides Coordinator, please contact John at supportedrides@bikegaba.org or Matt Harmon at president@bikegaba.org.

GABA members only Strava Club

We have learned that GABA members would like a member’s only Strava Club. Rather than close the existing GABA official Strava club off from public participation (because it allows GABA to promote its existence in the community), the board has created a second, closed Strava club that will be available to GABA members only.

To join the new Greater Arizona Bicycling Association (GABA) (Members Only) Strava club, log in to Strava and go to:

and click on the button labeled “Request to join”.

If your GABA membership is up to date, an administrator will approve your request to join.
