Owls Head Butte Metric Century (ish)
Saturday February 7, 2025

Route Distances: Metric Century(70 Miles)
or Medio Ride (36 miles)

The Owl Head Buttes consist of six Buttes or peaks of which all beg for your interest. The reward is wonderful views of Picacho Peak, The Catalina Mountains, and the rural greater Tucson areas. The area is thick with Sonoran Desert vegetation. The only downside would be the power lines dissecting the Buttes

The 70 mile route with long stretches of straight flat roads will be perfect for practicing group or pace-line riding skills. Not ready for that many miles? The 36 mile Loop is a fun alternative. Pick the distance that suits you and come ride with us.

We have a new venue, new style and an opportunity to ride TWO days!

Monthly GABA Meeting – Thursday, February 12

What is Great About Tandem Cycling

NOTE NEW MEETING LOCATION See Information Below

Tandem

At our February meeting, Caren and Mike Bianco, owners of Adventures in Tandem cycle tours and Oro Valley residents, will be talking about what they love most – tandem cycling!

It’s likely you have seen a few tandem couples riding around Tucson and on the Loop. Have you ever thought about riding a tandem with your significant other? If so, Caren and Mike have all the information that you need to get started. And even if you haven’t actually thought about riding a tandem, you’ll still learn everything there is to know about tandem cycling.

Please join your fellow GABA members to hear Caren and Mike’s story (and feel free to bring guests). The meeting starts at 7:00 pm on February 12, 2026.  But doors will open at 6:30 so you can come early and socialize with other GABA members.

The presentation will be at our NEW MEETING LOCATION – the East Murphey Gallery at the St Philips in the Hills Church, located at the NE corner of Campbell and River. (The same place as our January meeting but in a different building.)

Note that this is NOT St Phillips Plaza where you park for the Loop trail. Rather it’s on the north side of River Road.  There are entrances off both Campbell and River.

Drive into the parking lot and try to park under or near the parking area that is covered with solar panels.  From there, look to the southwest for GABA signs that will direct you to the building with the meeting room.  A map showing the location of the parking lot and the route to the meeting room is available at  https://tinyurl.com/StPhillipsMap

Besides coming early to socialize, you might also want to come early in case you are delayed by any confusion about finding the new location.

GABA members only Strava Club

We have learned that GABA members would like a member’s only Strava Club. Rather than close the existing GABA official Strava club off from public participation (because it allows GABA to promote its existence in the community), the board has created a second, closed Strava club that will be available to GABA members only.

To join the new Greater Arizona Bicycling Association (GABA) (Members Only) Strava club, log in to Strava and go to:

https://www.strava.com/clubs/gaba-membersonly

and click on the button labeled “Request to join”.

If your GABA membership is up to date, an administrator will approve your request to join.
